Wisconsin Family Forests, Inc.
A Public Meeting on the
The purpose of the meeting is to seek suggestions on how the law can be improved.
“A considerable portion of the state’s privately owned forest land is not enrolled under a forest tax law. Of the approximately 10 million acres of forest land in private ownership, only about 31% is enrolled under forest tax laws. Some of the 69% non-enrolled land is likely being used to grow a merchantable timber crop. Information is not available to determine why those owners have not enrolled their land under the programs given the substantial reduction in taxes they would obtain by doing so” From : Wisconsin Forestry Tax Exemption Report 2007
It is expected that the meeting will answer the question Why… and lead to ideas that would make the law better and more appealing to woodland owners.
A four person panel will be present to hear comments and receive questions from
the audience. The panel will consist of: Louis Molepske,
State Representative, 71st District; Kathryn
Nelson, Forest Tax Section Chief, DNR; Juris Repsa, Industrial Forester, Bell
Timber, Inc. ; and Dick Hall, Outdoor Writer and Ecologist.
