3“Woods Walkers”

Over the years many of you have asked if there was someone who could take a walk in your woodlot and simply give you some direction as to how to manage it.  Do I have invasive plants such as buckthorn, knapweed, garlic mustard, etc?  Do I have wild prairie flowers that a beneficial to wildlife or the karner blue butterfly?  I have an open area in my woodlot – is it suitable for a prairie restoration plot or a food plot?  Is the timber on my property at a stage that I should consider hiring a forestry consultant?  Are my trees healthy?  Are there beginning symptoms of disease or insect problems that I should be aware of?  You’ve attended our workshops and walks in the woods  on neighboring properties, but you want someone to walk your woods and give you some answers.

Alan Haney and Dick Hall have agreed to come out to your woodlot and provide this service.  Both have been involved in forestry all of their careers.  (See background information in the news letter) Neither Alan or Dick have any ties to any loggers or timber buyers; they will give you honest and nonbiased recommendations for your woodlot.  They do not charge a set fee, but we recommend that you please compensate them for their time and mileage, it’s up to you.  When calling for an appointment please be flexible and patient.  They are both retired, but like most retired people, they’re busier now than when they were working.  Both Alan and Dick are easy going and enjoyable to work with; you will not be disappointed.
